Ford Focus RS coming to South Africa

Ford have announced that they will finally be releasing a limited number of Ford Focus RS vehicles in South Africa. Sometimes in South Africa we feel a little left out when it comes to some of the more exclusive cars that are released world-wide, so it’s great to know that we will be receiving the Focus RS. A limited number of Ford Focus RS models will be available later this year in South Africa.

Big Power for Ford Focus RS

The Ford Focus RS is powered by a 2.5 liter Duratec 5-cylinder engine and it’s performance level is higher than even the Ford Focus ST. The Focus RS completes the 0-100km in under 6 seconds. The engine produces 224kW at 6000rpm with 440Nm of torque from 2250 to 4500rpm.

Look out for more information on the Ford Focus RS closer to the end of the year!

Citroen Survolt Concept at Le Mans

After first being revealed at the Geneva International Motor Show, the Citroen Survolt Concept recently took a spin around the famous Le Mans race track. While concept cars are often far too outlandish and ridiculous to ever make it into production, the Citroen Survolt concept seems to still have its feet on the ground in one way at least; it’s completely electric driven. It’s not often that a concept sports car is designed as electric, so it’s a refreshing change to say the least.

Citroen Survolt Concept is electric and eco-friendly

Being green and eco-friendly is definitely a huge concern these days, apparently even on the racetrack. The Citroen Survolt is powered by 2 electric motors that combine to produce 300hp from 0 – 5000rpm. This results in the Survolt completing 0-100km/h in under 5 seconds and a top speed of 260km/h, which is something quite special for an electric car.

On a full battery charge, the Citroen Survolt Concept can drive for 200km before it will need to be recharged. Re-charging can be done in just 2 hours with a specific setup but on a normal 220 volt network the re-charge will take 10 hours.

There is still no definite word on whether or not the Citroen Survolt will make production, so we will just have to wait and see.

New BMW X3 gets fresh looks

Details of the new BMW X3 SAV have finally been released and while the 2011 BMW X3 does obviously look very similar to the current model, it has been made longer as well as wider and taller. These changes do seem rather odd though, as the far more common trend see’s next generation vehicles becoming more compact. With these changes the 2011 X3 does run the risk of becoming too similar to the X5.

New BMW X3 available with two engines at launch

At launch, he 2011 BMW X3 will be available in 2 different engine options including the xDrive 20d 4-cylinder diesel engine which produces 135kW. This engine completes 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds with a top speed of 210km/h. The other option is the xDrive 35i 6-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 225kW. With a 0-100km/h in just 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 245km/h. It’s likely that there will be more engine options available post-launch.

The new BMW X3 will feature an automatic start-stop system in conjunction with a 6-cylinder engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission. This is a first for an X3 model and all these features combine to improve fuel economy.

Other new standard features include xDrive 4-wheel drive technology, improved suspension technology and electric power steering.

Other optional features include performance control, variable sports steering, damper control and dynamic drive control.

The 2011 BMW X3 should hit dealerships over-seas near the end of 2010.

New Peugeot 508 details released

Details of the new Peugeot 508 have been released. The first news we saw of the 508 was at the Geneva International Motor Show where the 508 was shown as the SR1 concept and its good to see the car moving along the production line. The next time the 508 will be on display is at the Paris Motor Show later this year.

New Peugeot 508 – Features

While Europe can expect to see the new Peugeot 508 in the beginning of 2011, South African consumers can expect to pick it up some time in the middle of 2011. The new Peugeot 508 is being produced in France for the European market as well as China for the rest of the world production. The new Peugeot 508 will be released in both a sedan model as well as a station wagon.

As for the car itself, Peugeot note that the suspension was designed with a high level of comfort and road holding in mind. The interior has been maxed out for space and likewise, the boot also has a generous size. As with seemingly all new cars these days, in order to achieve an impressive environmental performance, the car has been made aerodynamic, the weight has been optimized and the engine has been tuned for minimum environmental impact.

At a later stage a hybrid version of the 508 will be released which will feature an impressive 99g/km emission rating and obviously 0g/km when in electric mode. The launch version will feature the e-HDi system which gives the car new start and stop technology to further improve driveability and economy.
